World Day Of Prayer For The Sick February 11, 2008
(Jesus showed his love for the sick by visiting them, by touching them, by forgiving and healing them. He encourages us to recognize him in our sick brothers and sisters (Matthew 25:31-40). Throughout the centuries, the people of God have continued to express this love and care for those who are sick.)
(The sick are remembered in the daily prayer of the Church and especially at Eucharist during the Prayer of the Faithful. The Church's ritual book, Pastoral Care of the Sick and the Dying, contains many prayers and blessings for the sick.)
A READING FROM THE GOSPEL OF MARK
When they got out of the boat,
people at once recognized Jesus,
and rushed about the whole region
and began to bring the sick on mats
to wherever they heard he was.
And wherever he went,
into villages or cities or farms,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces,
and begged him
that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak;
and all who touched it were healed.
Mark 6:54-56.
